Welcome to Bad Historian. By using our mobile application or website (badhistorian.com), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. What Bad Historian Is

Bad Historian is an entertainment app that provides comedic, GPS-guided walking tours. Our content is intentionally inaccurate for comedic effect. Tours mix real history with fictional stories, exaggerations, and made-up facts. Nothing in the app should be taken as factual, educational, or historically accurate. It's entertainment — enjoy it as such.

2. Using the App

  • You don't need an account to use Bad Historian. Some features (like purchase syncing across devices) may require signing in.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the app.
  • You're responsible for your own safety while walking. Pay attention to traffic, terrain, and your surroundings. Bad Historian is not responsible for any injury, accident, or mishap that occurs while you're on a tour.
  • Don't use the app while driving.

3. Purchases and Payments

  • All purchases (single tours, city packs, All Access) are non-renewing yearly subscriptions processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Each purchase grants 1 year of access.
  • Purchases do not auto-renew. To continue access after 1 year, you can re-purchase at any time.
  • Prices are displayed in the app at the time of purchase and may vary by region.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective refund policies. If you have trouble, contact us and we'll do our best to help.
  • Purchased content is tied to your App Store or Google Play account and can be restored on any device signed into that account.

4. Content and Intellectual Property

  • All tour scripts, audio, images, and other content in the app are owned by Bad Historian or used with permission.
  • You may not copy, distribute, modify, or create derivative works from our content without written permission.
  • You may share your quiz results, screenshots, and clips for personal, non-commercial use (we encourage it — it's fun).

5. "Ask the Historian" Feature

The interactive Q&A feature uses AI to generate responses in character. These responses are entertainment, not facts. The AI may produce incorrect, absurd, or completely fabricated answers — that's the point. Don't rely on anything it says for real decisions, research, or anything that matters.

6. Location Data

The app uses your device's location to trigger audio at tour stops. Location data is processed locally on your device. You can use the app without location services, but the automatic geofenced playback feature won't work. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

7. Group Pass and Sharing

  • The Group Pass add-on lets you share access with a limited number of friends or family members via invite codes.
  • Invite codes are for personal use only. Selling, publicly posting, or mass-distributing invite codes is not allowed and may result in the codes being deactivated.

8. Acceptable Use

Don't use Bad Historian to:

  • Violate any laws or regulations
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app
  • Circumvent payment systems or access paid content without purchasing
  • Harass, abuse, or harm others
  • Redistribute our content commercially

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

Bad Historian is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that tours will be available in all locations at all times. GPS accuracy varies by device and environment — tour stops may not trigger perfectly in every situation.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bad Historian is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app. This includes but is not limited to: injuries sustained while walking, reliance on content presented in the app, or loss of purchased content due to technical issues. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the specific content in question.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the new terms. For significant changes, we'll provide notice through the app.
