"The building with the octagonal cupola on top — that's Napoleon House. It's been crumbling beautifully since seventeen ninety-four, and at this point the decay is basically a design choice. It belonged to Nicolas Girod, who was mayor of New Orleans from eighteen twelve to eighteen fifteen. After Napoleon's exile to the island of Saint Helena, Girod hatched a plan."
