Northerly Island — The Land That Wasn't
Museum Campus, Chicago
A Preview
"If you have time, walk south along Northerly Island. Daniel Burnham's 1909 plan called for five artificial islands. They only built one — this one. By 1933, it was the site of the Century of Progress World's Fair. The fair had 2 million visitors. Attractions included the infamous fan dancer Sally Rand, who performed with nothing but two ostrich feathers. She was arrested four times."
